METAPASSWORD |

MetaPassword
is an intrinsically safe system of identification that can be used
to access servers through communication networks (e.g. Internet
or telephone networks) and, more generally, for the automatic control
of identity.

The system is developed by Quanticom
Solutions Ltd in partnership with Norman Research responsible
for design and integration of its software. The system is based
on the idea expressed in the international patent published with
the number WO2004070506, filed by Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche
– Istituto Nazionale di Fisica della Materia (CNR-INFM) (National
Council of Research - National Institute for the Physics of Matter).
METAPASSWORD uses "disposable" passwords (One Time Password
or OTP) generated in an interactive and global way by an algorithm
that skips, in a controlled manner, some information traveling over
the network: the password will vary depending on the global history
of connections of the owner and as a function of random numbers
exchanged between the user and the server. In this way, the OTP
can be considered undoubtedly unpredictable.
The system perfectly integrates itself with all existing communication
standards, and doesn’t need any change of these ones. It uses
an already available and well experienced technology. In addition
it’s universal; although not based on cryptography, it can
be safely used in conjunction with it.
The access procedure involves the use of:
- A specially programmed smart card;
- Dedicated pocket reader (that, if needed, may be connected to
a computer utilised to access the network);
- Software that manages the connections with the server of the carrier
company you want to use.
The connection system here described can be easily extended to handheld
computers and mobile phones. In this case, in conjunction with an
m-banking service, would allow purchases in any store without cash
in a totally safe manner. In addition, the password generated with
OTP system can be used as key in encryption algorithms by allowing
the transfer of encrypted information in an ever different way each
time you connect.
